Meet the Tudors at the Westgate
Living history society The Tudor Group are taking over the Westgate Museum in Winchester on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September 2008. Members of the public will have a chance to step back in time and experience what life was like for the Tudors.
Visitors will be able to meet a Tudor artist who will be revealing the secrets of his craft, and find out from a Tudor lady all about day-to-day domestic life during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. There will also be replica objects from the period for visitors to handle.
Robin Iles, Winchester City Council’s Museums Education Officer said:
“The Westgate Museum is an ideal setting for this event, as it contains a superb Tudor painted ceiling and wall frieze formerly housed in Winchester College, commissioned to commemorate the wedding of Mary Tudor and Philip of Spain in Winchester Cathedral. A portrait, armour and everyday belongings from the time are also on display, and there is even replica armour and a Tudor costume to try on.”
Patricia Stallard, Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and Sport at Winchester City Council, said:
“This free event at the Westgate promises to be a fascinating insight into Tudor life. It is a good example of the family-friendly events hosted by the City Council’s museums, and is likely to be very popular with local families who have children studying the Tudors at school.”
You can meet the Tudor re-enactors at the Westgate Museum on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September, 10am-5pm. Admission is free.
