Free customer service training for bus and taxi drivers in Winchester

Winchester bus and taxi drivers are being offered a FREE day of training to help enhance customer service and satisfaction.

The one-day City and Guilds customer care training course, Welcome to Winchester, takes place on Wednesday 10 December at INTECH Science Centre and Planetarium.  It has been specifically designed for bus and taxi drivers in the Winchester District.

Welcome to Winchester has been organised by Winchester City Council’s Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in conjunction with the regional tourism agency, Tourism South East.  The course, which proved popular with taxi drivers when it was piloted in April, has now been extended to include bus drivers.

Transport providers are being invited to be ambassadors for the Winchester District by improving their knowledge of what it has to offer visitors. Participants can also benefit from a FREE family ticket to INTECH Science Centre and Planetarium.

Alison Woods, Winchester City Council’s Tourist Information Centre Manager said: “With free bus passes now being offered to all over 60s, a bus ride often provides visitors with their first impression of the beautiful Winchester District.  Our bus and taxi drivers already provide an excellent service but this course will give them the opportunity to make it an outstanding service.  At Winchester TIC we pride ourselves on providing excellent customer care, but we know that there is always something to learn.”

Cllr George Beckett, leader of Winchester City Council and portfolio holder for economy and tourism, added: “The City Council is committed to raising standards across the tourism industry, and we have always led by example – winning tourist information centre of the year in 2006, and introducing quality awards for visitor accommodation and eateries. This is the next step in ensuring that Winchester is a world-class destination as we look forward to 2012 when the world’s media will be focused on the UK.”
