Winnall ladies' trip with the Wardens

Winchester City Council's neighbourhood wardens have a very varied job, working out in the community.

One recent project involved Warden Darren Sedman-Hobson taking nine ladies from the Winnall Over 50s club to Odeon Leisure World to watch a film on the Senior Screen.

Waved off from the Winnall Community Centre by the Mayor of Winchester Cllr Chris Pines, the ladies went by minibus to see The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith.

At just £4 each, including transport, the cinema ticket and all the tea and coffee they could drink, the ladies loved it and asked the wardens to organise another trip soon.

Warden Darren Sedman-Hobson said: "It was a really fun day and it gave the ladies an opportunity to get out and about and socialise without it costing the earth.

"It's very important that everyone feels part of their community but as people get older they become less mobile, have less disposable income, and it can become difficult. Organising a trip like this is a simple and cheap way of improving the quality of life for some residents. Now I just have to organise one for the Stanmore residents so they don't feel left out!"
