Housing surgeries extend to Alresford and Bishops Waltham

More surgeries offering advice on housing issues and housing and council tax benefit are available across the Winchester area.

The sessions have been running for some time at Denmead and Wickham and the scheme has extended to include Alresford and Bishops Waltham. They are now also open to all residents, and not restricted to council tenants only.

At the surgeries, residents can benefit from a confidential consultation with our Housing Benefit Visiting Officer and/or our Area Housing Manager.

Subjects that can be covered include:
- General information on all aspects of Housing and Council Tax Benefit
- General information on Housing Issues
- Any problems council tenants have with rents, property management or repairs
- Help completing Housing and Council Tax Benefit application forms
- Quotes on possible entitlement to Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit
Our Visiting Officer can take photos of proofs that need to be supplied to support a claim for Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit

Cllr Freddy Allgood, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Resources, said: "The surgeries have been very useful for the people in Denmead, where we piloted them, and it's good that more people across the district have access to these services."

"What has also been very good indeed is that people can raise issues, not only relating to rent and council tax," he added.

"For example, where people have raised the need for pavement repairs or complained about overhanging hedges we have been able to forward it on to the relevant department."
