Councillors at Planning School
Three leading Winchester City planning Councillors went back to school when they attended the prestigious annual Planning Summer School run under the auspices of the Royal Town Planning Institute at the University of Kent, Canterbury.
Cllrs Barry Lipscomb (Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Planning & Transport), Ernie Jeffs and Mike Read (Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Planning Development Control Committee) attended a wide variety of lectures by eminent specialists and workshops on all aspects of planning.
Barry Lipscomb said "Summer School is highly regarded by Councillors and Officers for improving their knowledge and expertise. While none of us is a planning novice, we learned a lot which we may draw on to improve the efficiency and quality of what we do in Winchester.
"I was especially impressed by what I saw on a walking tour of re-generation housing and commercial projects in Canterbury city centre, which has a number of similarities to Winchester. This was definitely four days well spent."
