The CREW is coming..!

Highcliffe in Winchester is the next area to benefit from a Crime Reduction and Environment Week (CREW) from Tuesday 30 May until Friday 9 June.

The CREW will involve a number of agencies from the Community Safety Partnership, including Winchester City Council, Police, Fire and Rescue Service, County Youth Services and many local support services, including Highcliffe Community Action, community groups and importantly the community themselves.

Members of the Highcliffe community should have received packs through their doors about the activities for the week including among others rubbish clearances and bulky waste collections.

Cllr Frank Pearson, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Health and Safety said, "CREWs are designed to provide practical help and support in 'improving' an area over the week, to act as a kick start for further long term work. During the week we will aim to focus on what people living in the community want tackled to make them feel safer.

"It is vital that community members come and get involved because they are ones who know the issues and priorities in their area".

The County Youth Service will be working closely with young people, and are running lots of activities including a climbing tower and photo competition, alongside the Neighbourhood Wardens who will be providing football and go-karting during the week. The Fire Service will be carrying out home fire safety checks and agencies will be visiting schools in the area.

A Travelling Roadshow has been planned for Tuesday 6 June from 3.00pm starting at All Saints School, for people to talk to their City Council Neighbourhood Wardens, local police officers as well as meet other support services.

If you would like more information about the events in the area or on how to get involved then please contact Sandra Tuddenham Community Safety Officer on 07980 732 192.
