Mayor's Charity fund raising 'makes a big difference'

Thanks to the Mayor of Winchester's Charities appeal three local charities are now thousands of pounds better off.

Cllr Neil Baxter, the previous Mayor of Winchester was back at Abbey House last week to present the three charities he has been fundraising for all year with cheques for £8,715 each.

The three charities that benefited from the money were Live at Home Scheme, which helps elderly people to stay in their own homes, The Stroke Association, Winchester Branch and the Make a Wish Foundation.

Frances Heath from the Make a Wish Foundation said "For all of us this money will make a big difference".

Cllr Baxter said "It has been a pleasure to raise money for three such worthy causes over my year as Mayor, and I am delighted that the people of Winchester will benefit from over £26,000 as a result of everyone on the Charity Committee's hard work".
