Museum curators win
Winchester Museums Service curators are celebrating their success at winning full Accreditation status under the Accreditation Scheme maintained by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). Success under the Scheme, first launched in 1988 and recently revised, provides public recognition for the Museum Service that it meets approved standards in the key areas of museum management, collection care and public services.
Cllr Therese Evans, Winchester City Council portfolio holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport commented, "This is a tremendous success for the Winchester City Council's Museum Service and is a credit to our hardworking team of curators."
Dr Geoff Denford, Principal Curator for the Museum Service said "I am personally thrilled at achieving full Accreditation status; it is a huge honour for us. The award recognises the core work myself and other curators do with the collections and the support we provide to other user services such as events, exhibitions, publications and talks".
The Accreditation Scheme is endorsed by a wide range of organisations including the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the local government associations and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The award of full Accreditation status gives general eligibility for grant-aid and awards offered by a wide range of organisations.
