Tease your taste buds at Winchester Guildhall's Courtyard Cafe

Taste buds will be put to the test on Saturday 28 May, when children are invited to the Courtyard Café in Winchester Guildhall for a fun family event that will tease the tongue and perplex the palate.  The café will be laying on an evening meal with a difference designed to explode the myth that you can't get children to eat their greens...

Forming part of Winchester's Bright Sparks celebrations - a year-long programme of science themed events marking Einstein Year and World Year of Physics - the Taste Bud Teaser promises a fun and exciting meal accompanied by a demonstration of scientific experiments from 'science showman' Ian B. Dunne.

Aimed at parents and children aged 7-12 years old, the evening will test the young diners' sense of taste and powers of observation as chefs prepare delicious dishes that aren't quite what they seem, while Ian Dunne leads the participants through a series of experiments in optical illusion.

Commenting on the event, Glenn Prested, General Manager of Milburns who provide the catering services at the Guildhall, said

"Chefs like Jamie Oliver have highlighted the importance of engaging children's interest in food from an early age. Taste Bud Teaser will encourage them to take a second look at the food on their plate with the help of a few mind-expanding experiments."

Cllr Therese Evans, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport at Winchester City Council, said that she was delighted to see younger members of the community making the most of the Guildhall: "Winchester Guildhall has a growing reputation as a family-friendly venue, from the popular Sugar and Spice mornings in the café to the regular Drop In and Draw sessions at the Guildhall Gallery. The Taste Bud Teaser provides another opportunity for families to have fun in one of Winchester's most special buildings

Tickets for this dinner with a difference are available from the Courtyard Café at Winchester Guildhall and cost £9 for children and £12 for adults. To put your taste buds to the test, contact the Courtyard Café on 01962 622 177.
