Westgate under siege!

Civil War soldiers will lay siege to the Westgate, one of Winchester's ancient gateways, on Easter Sunday.

This re-enactment by the Company of the Sealed Knot will consist of pikemen and musketeers who will be demonstrating their skill at arms. Come and try out the weapons of the soldiers, learn to drill, and find out more about life as a soldier during the English Civil War.

There will also be a canon to support the garrison and the gun captain and crew will demonstrate the loading and firing of this awesome piece of artillery.

Geoff Denford, Winchester City Council's Principal Museum Curator, said, "The Westgate contains weapons and armour from the Civil War and it will be great to see history brought alive once more in and around our ancient gateway. Admission is free, so just turn up. It promises to be an exciting day!"
