The Axeman at Museum

Come along to the City Museum in Winchester on Saturday 14 May, 11am-5pm, to see Channel 4's Time Team guest expert Damian Goodburn bring alive the skills of our prehistoric ancestors as he demonstrates how they used woodworking axes and tools during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

Damian is visiting during Museums Month as part of Bright Sparks, the City's year long celebration of science and technology.

Visitors will have the opportunity to handle real prehistoric tools from the museum's collection, including 400,000 year old hand axes and Bronze Age weapons not normally on display. Damian will also be bringing a number of replicas for handling.

Robin Iles, Education Officer for Winchester City Council's Museum Service, said "This is a rare opportunity to see a top expert demonstrate how the stone and metal artefacts you usually see in museum cases were actually used by people in the past.
Watch ancient technology in action, and hold in your hands some of the oldest artefacts ever made by people in Hampshire."

This event is free and no booking is required.
