Mayor goes green

The Mayoral car in Winchester is the latest addition to the City Council's fleet of low-emission environmentally friendly vehicles.

When the lease for the old vehicle ended this year, the City Council decided to get a new dual-fuel car to support its work on addressing air quality issues within the City. The car joins existing gas-powered dog warden vans, parking service vehicles, and a courier van.

Welcoming the move, Cllr Jim Wagner, the City Council's portfolio holder for environmental health, said "The car was an ideal opportunity for the Council to help the aims of its Air Quality Action Plan, which will be out for public consultation later this year.

"We want to encourage the use of low-emission vehicles as well as tackling the more complicated issues of traffic management within the City to improve overall air quality.

"The Mayor of Winchester is the Civic Leader for the district and I am delighted that she has chosen to support our work in this way'," he added.
