Council warning to businesses
Winchester City Council has issued a warning to businesses in the district that may have received a letter from a company describing itself as Health and Safety Enforcement Agency.
The company states in the letter that businesses are required to display a poster on Health and Safety, and that they should complete a form and enclose payment of £125.
Kevin Gosling, the City Council's environmental health commercial team leader, says that although it is the law to display the poster, it can be bought direct from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) bookshop or any good bookshop for under £15.
"The nature of the letter indicates that it may have come from the Health and Safety Executive and carries a logo similar to that of the HSE," said Kevin. "Both the HSE and Trading Standard authorities have been informed and are carrying out investigations into the company concerned," he added.
If anyone wants further advice they can contact either the HSE direct on 01256 404000 or the City Council's environmental health staff on 01962 848470.
