Mayor "cool" in shades

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Cecily Sutton, is urging everyone to be "cool for a day" and raise funds for the National Guide Dogs for the Blind Association during "Shades for a Day" on Tuesday 13 July.

"Shades for a Day is a fantastic way to raise money for guide dogs and at the same highlight important eye-care messages for everyone," said the Mayor. She is being supported by City Council staff who are being encouraged to wear "wacky" sunglasses on the day.

In support of Shades for a Day, Guide Dogs has created a new website - www.healtheyeyes.org.uk - where everyone can find out how to care for their eyes and join in the Shades for a Day fund-raising event.

Guide Dogs has invested more than £8m into research into the causes of eye conditions and Tom Pey, Guide Dogs' Director of Policy, says there are simple measures everyone can take to look after their eyes and, potentially, save their sight. "Shades for a Day is an ideal opportunity to stop and think about eye care, and have fun while raising money for our on-going work," he added.
