Community Strategy - a vision for the future

Four "big issues" were prioritised at the launch of the "Winchester and District Working Together" Community Strategy - Investing in Youth, Housing the Community, Improving Access, and Reducing and Recycling our Waste.

The Community Strategy has been drawn up by a partnership of voluntary, private and public sector organisations, and provides a vision for the future for the district's 110,000 residents.

Cllr Sheila Campbell, chairman of the "Winchester and District Working Together" partnership, and Leader of Winchester City Council, said the partners could together deliver more for the community than if they worked in isolation.

She added that the strategy will help guide partners' work to achieve a better quality of life for residents.

"But the launch of the strategy is just the beginning of the hard work we all have to do to make a real difference for our residents and achieve the improvements we have all committed ourselves to deliver," she went on.

The Community Strategy has been drawn up from extensive consultation with local communities, and with the business, cultural, public and voluntary sectors. The Strategy sets out nine areas identified as important to the residents of the District in which the partnership hopes to deliver real improvements.
