The regular Health Walks are a great way to see the beautiful landscapes of Winchester and take in some fresh air at the same time! Explained as 'a purposeful, brisk walk undertaken on a regular basis' these health walks can provide a great starting basis to leading an active and healthy lifestyle in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment.
We currently have 7 walks within the Winchester district that are run by our team of Volunteer Walk Leaders. These weekly walks last for about an hour and are free of charge.
Day Time Where Details Monday 10.30am Opposite Antiques Market, Kings Walk, SO23 8AF The walk is split in to 3 walks
- Fast walk (3 miles approx)
- Steady walk (2 miles approx)
- Short walk (10-30 minutes)
1st Monday of the month: fast walk = bus walk
Tuesday 10.45am Coach & Horses Pub, Sutton Scotney, Oxford Road (SO21 3JH) One hour walk Tuesday 1.30pm Opposite the entrance to Alresford Recreation Centre, Alresford (SO24 9EP) One hour walk Wednesday 9.30am Friarsgate (the old building), Winchester (SO23 8EF) One hour walk Wednesday 10.30am Colden Common Community Centre, Colden Common (SO21 1UU)
One hour walk covering 2-3 miles
Thursday 10.30am The Square, Bishops Waltham (SO32 1GG)
- 1st Thursday of the month: non-stile walk.
- Last Thursday of the month: bus/car walk
Thursday 2.00pm Tubbs Hall, Fraser Road, Kings Worthy (SO23 7PJ) One hour walk covering 2-3 miles Friday 10.00am Costa Coffee, Weeke Gate, Stockbridge Road, Winchester (SO22 6EL) One hour walk covering 2-3 miles 'bus walks' The group catch a bus to another location and either walk back from there or they do a circular walk in that area, then catch the bus back. 'car walk' When a location is not accessible by bus, the group gets there by sharing cars; they then do a circular walk in that area, then drive back.
How to take part
If you’d like to take part, all you have to do is come along to the start point of one of our walks a few minutes early, so that one of our trained walk leaders can give you a registration form (see link on this page in Documents) to complete. Then you’re free to take part in as many walks as you like, as often as you like. These walks rely on the support that we receive from our local Volunteer Walk Leaders and we are always looking for more volunteers to join our team. Walk Leaders attend a one day course to become qualified, the course is free of charge and run in the local area. Once qualified a leader can choose to take a group walk on a regular basis or on a more infrequent basis as they wish.
