Park and Ride - It's just the ticket

Winchester Park and Ride General Information

The Winchester Park and Ride (P&R) service offers a convenient and cost effective way to travel into Winchester. We now have Park and Ride sites situated on the East, South and West sides of Winchester to accommodate visitors travelling from nearly every direction. Park and Ride has been developed as a way of reducing traffic volumes and the impact of traffic in the city centre, making Winchester a more pleasant environment.

The car parks are all covered by CCTV, and all have been awarded the Park Mark Safer Parking status for security and safety.

  • Tickets

    The ticket machines at the car parks are Pay and Display.  On payment they produce two tickets - one to display in the vehicle and the other to show to the driver of the Park and Ride bus so you and your passengers (up to 6 passengers) can travel for free. The bus driver will give each passenger their own bus ticket to be used on their bus journeys.

    Customers can also pay for parking using their mobile/smart phone and credit/debit card via RingGo. Upon payment with RingGo, just show your text receipt to the bus driver. 

  • Charges

    The following daily tariffs will apply Monday to Saturday (no charge for parking Sundays or Bank Holidays):

    • All Day - £3.00 with coins
    • Off-peak parking (arrival after 10.30am Monday to Friday) - £2.50 with coins

    Additional tariffs for Barfield and St Catherines Only

    • Arrival after 4.00pm -FREE (obtain tickets from machine)
    • Saturdays 3 hours only - £1.50 with coins

    * A 30p RingGo surcharge is added, not controlled by WCC.

    ^ E-Wallet transactions give a 10% discount off the daily fee. Other surcharges by RingGo can be added if customers require, for example text reminders or text summaries cost 10p each.

  • Concessions

    Disabled Parking Badge holders may park at any of the Park and Ride car parks for free, however, they must pay for their bus travel. Disabled Parking Badge holders who also hold a National Bus Pass may use the Park and Ride bus free of charge after 09:30 Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday.

    Anyone who has the National Bus Pass and wishes to use the car park should pay the appropriate parking fee. 

  • Season Tickets

  • Bus Route

    The bus route runs between the East Winchester Park & Ride car parks (Barfield and St Catherine's) calling at The Broadway, M&S, Jewry Street, City Road, Railway Station, Westgate, Hospital, Romsey Road for Pitt P&R, South P&R.

    The buses from the South P&R call at Romsey Road for Pitt P&R, Hospital, Westgate, Railway Station, City Road, North Walls, The Broadway, Barfield P&R, St Catherine's P&R.

    As the bus route links between the East and South car parks, this enables users to park at either site and use any bus to access all destinations, as all buses serve all stops.

    Please note: There are no Park and Ride bus services on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

    Car Park Regulations

    Penalty Charge may be imposted for the following reasons:

    1. Failing to park wholly within a marked parking bay.
    2. Failing to purchase and display a valid ticket.
    3. Exceeding the 24 hour parking limit.
    4. Parking in a disabled persons bay without clearly displaying a valid disabled persons badge.
    5. Parking a vehicle over 2 tonnes unladen weight.
    6. Parking a caravan or trailer.
    7. Parking causing an obstruction.
    8. Parking a restricted area of the car park.
    9. Unauthorised use of a bay reserved for use by a specifically authorised vehicle.


    Regulations 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 apply at all times

    Penalty Charge Amount £70.00 or £50.00 (with 50% reduction if paid within 14 days of service of the Penalty Charge Notice)
