Have your say on Winchester’s digital future
Winchester City Council is encouraging residents, experts and businesses to sign up to a free digital debate on Tuesday 23 November at 5pm to help shape the future of the digital economy.
During the 90 minute session attendees will look at four challenges that have been identified as tools to understanding the digital needs of those who live and work in the Winchester District: digital infrastructure, access, opportunity, and future potential.
It is anticipated that a range of key decision makers and influencers will be joining the debate. These include EM3, Geekabit, Virgin Media, Community First, Federation of Small Businesses, ShopAppy and Hampshire County Council, to name a few. It will provide them the opportunity to hear first -hand where the issues, challenges and opportunities are within the Winchester district.

Cllr Anne Weir, Chair of the Digital Winchester Task and Finish Group at Winchester City Council, commented:
“The pandemic has been a catalyst for change and our home and work lives have relied more heavily on digital connectivity so we can stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues.”
Cllr Martin Tod, the city council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery, added:
“Digital is a vital part of our COVID recovery plan and the City Council’s Green Economic Development Strategy – but in a rural district like Winchester, not everyone has access to the services they need. There are still huge gaps to fill, barriers to overcome and opportunities to be taken. We want to hear as many different views and thoughts as possible from right across the Winchester district to get the broadest possible perspective and opinions on the challenges and opportunities of our digital future.”
Anyone who is unable to attend can take part in our survey here to help inform the changing needs of residents, businesses and organisations. The council is also interested in hearing from anyone who can provide relevant research and information from articles, published papers and documents to help build an evidence base for these challenges.
