Winchester City Centre gets spring clean

Winchester city centre has been given a spring clean thanks to the council’s Neighbourhood Services and Special Maintenance teams.

Among the many items picked from city centre streets and North Walls, were abandoned road signs and cones, shopping trolleys, sacks of waste and other discarded rubbish.

Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Jan Warwick said:

“It is so important that the city is kept looking at its best.

“We will continue to work hard to ensure that Winchester continues to be a clean and pleasant place for residents, businesses and visitors.”

It comes after Winchester High Street was also given a spruce-up, which was funded by the city council and Winchester Business Improvement District.

The council will also be supporting The Great British Spring Clean which will take place from March 22 to April 23.

The council, along with its street care contractors, will be assisting local parishes and litter picking groups in the district by providing free high-visibility jackets, litter picks and black bags which they will collect after the event.
