Winchester City Council completes another affordable housing development in the district

Winchester City Council continues to make progress towards its goal to build 600 new homes in the district by 2021.

The latest development completed is six one-bedroom homes at Mitford Road in Alresford.

Other council housing developments finished over the last year include 13 homes at Hillier Way and the Chesil Lodge Extra Care  scheme which provides 52 apartments for over 55s, ensuring residents can live independently while also having their care needs met.

The council is also building five flats at Bailey Close, 13 homes at Mayles Lane, Knowle; and 27 flats at Victoria Court with plans to build two houses at Twyford and seven houses at Rowlings Road in Winchester.

The council is also pressing ahead with plans to build 77 affordable homes at The Valley in Stanmore and has recently been provided with a £3.2m cash boost from the government after the council joined the Wayfarer Consortium.

Winchester City Council Conservative leader and portfolio holder for housing, Cllr Caroline Horrill, said:

“I am delighted to see another housing development completed and ready for residents to move in.

“The council recognises that Winchester district is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK and, as a result, places a real emphasis on providing affordable homes in the district to ensure it is one in which residents can comfortably live and work.”
