Winchester play area reopened in style after major £120,000 revamp

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Frank Pearson officially reopened the newly refurbished Winnall Manor Road play area on Saturday.

The play area now has a new ‘castle and knight’ theme and a variety of new equipment including a zip wire, a trampoline and a memory swing where adults and toddlers can swing together. It is also part of the Wonky trail, which is a series of routes taking children to play areas across the district to find the council’s feathered friend Wonky the Woodpecker and his gang.

Families took part in a variety of activities including a penalty shoot out, basketball shooting and they also received a free goody bag from Wicksteed Leisure and had their photo taken with Wonky to mark the occasion.

Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Jan Warwick, said:

“The council is committed to improving its play areas, and I hope many children and families will try the new equipment at the Winnall Manor Road play area.

“Play areas are very important places for families in the district and we will continue invest and improve them for the benefit of our residents.”

The improvements are part of the council’s play area refurbishment programme. Other play areas in Winchester also set to benefit from the programme include Taplings Road play area and Gordon Avenue play area.
