Sport & Physical Activity Club Engagement evening proves to be big success

The Sport and Physical Activity team at Winchester City Council hosted their third successful Club Engagement evening.

More than 20 clubs across 12 sports attended the event at Winchester Rugby Club which was dedicated to supporting and developing the needs of clubs in the district.

Tom Pinnington from the Sports Consultancy delivered a presentation on the Sports Facilities Needs Assessment which highlighted the supply and demand for a number of facility types across the district. This was followed by two additional presentations on the new Sport & Leisure Centre at Bar End and the Winchester District Playing Pitch Strategy.

Winchester City Council staff, with support from the local County Sports Partnership, Energise Me, also delivered three workshops which included detailed information and advice on funding, volunteering and marketing.

Portfolio Holder for Health & Wellbeing and Chair of the Sport & Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA), Cllr Lisa Griffiths, said:

"This is a great opportunity to engage with coaches, managers and volunteers to assist with the development of their sports clubs’ objectives moving forward.

“I would like to thank Winchester Rugby Club for hosting the event as well as the staff at Winchester City Council and Energise Me for organising the evening.

“Thank you also to the speakers and workshop facilitators who have given up their time to support this event.”

The evening also included a discussion about the 2018 Winchester District Sports Awards which is taking place in February. Nominations are now open and people can make their submissions online.  The closing date for entries is Friday 4 January 2019.
