Between 2001 and 2011 the number of people in Winchester who worked full time decreased by 3.3%. However the number of self employed and part time workers rose by 2.6% (1.3% each). The number unemployed also rose by just under 1%.

There has been an improvement in educational qualifications between the 2001 and 2011 census. The percentage of people without a qualification fell by 4%, whilst the number with a qualification at level 4 (university degree or higher) rose by 10%.
