Supporting our community

The government has advised that the single most important thing we can all take to fight Coronavirus is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.

This includes people of all ages – even if you do not have any symptoms or other health conditions. You can only leave your home: to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to, to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle (alone or with other people you live with), for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person and to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary.

Winchester City Council is working closely with Hampshire County Council, Public Health England, local NHS partners and other agencies and bodies to ensure we are all well prepared as the situation develops.

Leader of the Council, Lucille Thompson says, "Thank you to everybody in our district for your patience and understanding in these difficult times. Winchester City Council is working with all our partners in national government, local health and public sector services, as well as local charitable, faith and voluntary groups, to prepare and respond to the challenges we face.   These are challenging and difficult times but Winchester is a great place to live, work and raise a family and we are a caring community. I know with us all working together this will remain the case."  (Full statement above).
