Local authorities have a requirement to prepare a strategy which sets out how the area will develop in a sustainable way over the period of the strategy.

It identifies the important issues for an area, to be addressed through the work of the Council and its partners.

The original Community Strategy was adopted in 2004, with updates in 2007, 2010 and 2014.

The current Council Strategy runs from 2017 to 2020 and was refreshed early in 2019.

The Council Strategy is focused on four key outcomes that we want to achieve in the coming years in a way that is consistent across our aims.

These outcomes are:

  • Making the District a premier business location
  • Developing  quality housing with a balanced range of tenures
  • Protecting and enhancing our unique environment
  • Delivering services that encourage residents to lead healthy and fulfilling lives

The outcome of our combined aims will be a district where everyone enjoys the opportunities and quality of life that come from living in the Winchester District.

The refreshed Council Strategy covering the period 2019 to 2020 was adopted by Council at its meeting on 16 January 2019.

Progress against the projects and actions included in the Council Strategy is regularly reported to The Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Cabinet meetings.
