All textiles, clothing, household linens, underwear, shoes and accessories can be reused or recycled. Even worn, torn and old items can be recycled as long as they are clean. You can put all these items into the council’s recycling banks situated at Council-owned sites across the District managed by the European Recycling Company.
The European Recycling Company recycles over 95% of materials collected through its banks. Items in good condition are sorted for different markets to be worn again. Worn out items are basic raw materials for new uses such as insulation material for cars, cleaning cloths or blankets for the house removing trade. The rivets from old clothes are extracted and sent to metal recycling. Even the plastic bags the clothes are deposited in are recycled.
Further information on what happens to your textiles can be found by following this link.
Please place your items into a plastic bag and tie pairs of shoes together if possible.
