On collection day your household rubbish bin must be placed out by 7am. If your bin is not out when the crew visits your road they will be unable to return to empty it later, so please make sure it is out in time.

Check when your bins are collected

Things not to put in your household rubbish bin...

The contents should only be normal household domestic waste and must not include any of the following items:

  • Stones or brick rubble
  • DIY material
  • Paint / chemicals or oil
  • Hot ashes
  • Clinical waste (we provide a free domestic service for this)
  • Commercial, trade or industrial waste
  • Scrap metal
  • Poisonous or noxious waste
  • Garden waste
  • Electrical products

Should any of these items be found in your household refuse bin it will be left unemptied.

Overloaded bins

Only one 240 ltr household rubbish wheeled bin will be collected per household. If you overload your bin the crew will take the excess out, empty the bin and put the excess back in. Extra rubbish left on the ground will not be taken so please do not leave it out at all.

You can get rid of any extra waste at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre which is run by Hampshire County Council, or we can collect bulky household waste for you (there is a charge for this service).

Bulk Waste

You can book and pay for bulky waste (white goods, bed, mattress etc) to be collected by calling 01962 670 706. Bulk waste collections are carried out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Winchester District.

For trade waste call 01962 670 705, Biffa will advise when bulk trade waste will be collected.

Buying a new bin

Householders are responsible for providing and maintaining their rubbish bins and replacing them if worn out, damaged, vandalised, lost or stolen. New residents will need to buy a bin if there are no containers. If the house is a new build you will need to ask the builder if they will be purchasing containers, if not you will need to purchase them yourself. Bins can be purchased from our contractor Biffa, by telephoning 01962 670 706. Bins are the responsibility of the householder, not the Council. The current cost of a bin is £22.11 plus a delivery charge of £5.00. Only one 240 ltr refuse bin can be purchased per household unless you are eligible for an additional bins if more than 6 people are living at the property.

Reporting a Missed Collection

If your bin/sack has been missed on the scheduled day of collection and you telephone our Customer Services team before 12pm, collection will be made by the crews in that area the same day. If you report it after 12pm the crew will return the following day.
If you call our Customer Services team the day after your scheduled collection day before 12pm, collection will be made by crews in that area that day.

Unfortunately if you call in after 12pm a collection will not be made and you will need to wait until your next scheduled collection unless the Client Team decides there are special circumstances.

If you have a query or would like to report a missed bin you can do this through our on-line form or by phoning 0300 300 0013.

Please note we only take refuse that is contained inside your refuse bin and any excess waste should be taken to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Any excess recycling can be placed alongside your bin in a clear sack or cardboard box.

Biffa will return twice in any 6 month period to make collections under this policy.
