Safe2eat
The City Council has introduced a "scores on the doors" system for food safety known as "safe2eat". This will mean that the hygiene rating of all food businesses will be made public on this website www.safe2eat.com/winchester
Following a primary food hygiene inspection a business will be rated excellent, satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Each premise will receive a certificate depicting what category they are in. Please look out for this certificate when you are visiting these premises. For further information take a look at the FAQs, the Operational Procedure and the Food Standards Agency's website.
In countries where scores on the doors systems have been introduced there has been a rise in hygiene standards, reduction in enforcement action and a reduction in food poisonings. If a business is unhappy with the outcome of the inspection and the rating they can use the Council's formal complaint procedure.
This initiative will provide the public with information about the food hygiene standards of food businesses giving them an informed choice as to where they eat or buy their food. Also our colleagues at the Tourist Information Centre operate the Hampshire Hospitality Award
This is a quality assessment scheme for restaurants, tea rooms, pubs, cafes and other eateries and awards have been given for the use of locally grown produce on their menus, some for the overall quality of the dining experience (from service to ambience) and some for both. Check out the premises in the attached pdf, then find out its hygiene rating and go enjoy your food.
