Barton Farm/Kings Barton

The Barton Farm Major Development Area is located to the north of Winchester and will provide 2,000 new homes including much needed affordable housing, along with community facilities, a new school and a new park and ride facility to serve the north of Winchester.

Cala Homes intend to recommence house building over the summer 2016.

Current status - On Schedule

  • Construction began at the site (Phase 1B) in Summer 2016
  • First occupations took place on 31 March 2017
  • Phase 1A final design scheduled for June/July 2017
  • Construction of new school scheduled to commence in June/July 2017
  • New southern junction into site (Andover Road) to be constructed Summer/Autumn 2017
  • Phase 2 proposals to be finalised Autumn 2017
  • Phases 2-5 to be designed and constructed between now and 2026

Latest Status
  • Construction progresses.   25 sales will be completed by July.  The next area of Phase 1B housing has been released for sale by CALA.
  • Works to install the 315mm water mains pipe from Park Road into the southern end of the site are underway and will conclude by 17 July.
  • Technical approval for the 1A junction S278 has not been agreed.  However, the legal agreement is in place pending final design approval.  Works to install the junction infrastructure will take place during the installation of the water main but will likely require an additional period of traffic management this Autumn.
  • WCC expects the Reserved Matters Application for phase 1A in June/July 2017.  CALA intend to be on site for construction on 1A in late 2017/early 2018


Consultation will continue through the forthcoming planning application process.  Public participation is also encouraged at the Barton Farm Forum.
