West of Waterlooville Strategic Allocations

The Core Strategy Issues and Options paper identified an option for expansion west of waterlooville.

Following the conclusions of the work on the spatial strategy for the Core Strategy (which suggests that much of the required Partnership of Urban South Hampshire growth should be at West of Waterlooville or Whiteley), Area 1 from the Issues and Options paper has been broken down into 2 seperate areas, and a further 2 sites have been assessed in addition to the MDA Reserve site.

The five sites assessed are:

  • Area 1 - land to the north of Hambledon Road
  • Area 2 - land to the west of the MDA and south of Hambledon Road
  • Area 3 - land to the north of the area of search adjoining Woodcroft Farm in the Havant District.
  • Area 4 - MDA Reserve site
  • Area 5 - land to the south and west of the proposed MDA

The five areas have undergone detailed assessments and the results for each site are set out below.

At the Issues and Options stage, a Sustainability Appraisal was undertaken by the consultants Enfusion, but this did not include an assessment of the potential sites. The Sustainability Appraisal criteria was used by officers to assess the merits of the four alternative locations identified in the Issues and Options document using the Sustainability Appraisal Framework approved by the LDF Cabinet in December 2007.

A further Sustainability Appraisal was then undertaken for the preferred option . For further information on the preferred approach for West of Waterlooville view Core Strategy Preferred Option (May 2009)
