Green Impact Awards 2018

Winchester City Council held a special award celebration to recognise the achievements of businesses that took part in the Green Impact green business scheme.

The second annual Green Impact Awards, held on Friday 9 November at Guildhall Winchester, celebrated organisations from across the Winchester district that have gone the extra mile to reduce their carbon emissions in a bid to become more sustainable.

The Mayor of Winchester presented Gold awards to the University of Winchester, Winchester City Council, Kirton Farm Nurseries and Marwell Wildlife while Silver awards went to Winchester Business Improvement District, OB Architecture and 360 Integrated PR. Green Value and Papermoon Writing Rooms picked up Bronze awards

Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council and Portfolio Holder for Economy, Cllr Rob Humby said:

“I am pleased to see a variety of businesses that have signed up to the scheme and are working towards making Winchester and the wider District a greener, cleaner place to live and work.

“What is great about this scheme is it can be applied to businesses of all sizes, from different sectors, and help them to make simple improvements to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly, which will make a real difference to the environment.”

Overall, the businesses reduced carbon by 250,000kg which is equivalent to 46 orca whales – or 2,749 baby elephants.

Green Impact is a free scheme commissioned by Winchester City Council and delivered in partnership with the Department for Sustainability at the National Union of Students (NUS), with students from the University of Winchester auditing the businesses to check that they have reached the required standard.

Any businesses interested in signing up to the Green Impact Winchester scheme can visit  www.greenimpact.org.uk/wcc or email Michelle Hemmingfield michelle.hemmingfield@nus.org.uk.
