Father Christmas to switch on Wickham Christmas lights

The festive spirit will come to the market town of Wickham on 2 December as the Christmas lights will be officially switched on in style.

At the community event Father Christmas will arrive by horse and carriage to switch on the lights at Wickham Village Square.

Shoppers, residents and visitors will get the chance to enjoy entertainment provided by local choirs from St Nicholas Church, Wickham Primary School and the Igloo group.

In addition to the festive live music, local businesses and organisations including Knowle Youth Project, The Southern Co-operative, Warwick Lane, Meon Valley Butchers and the Chocolate Shop are providing fun and free activities and refreshments in a marquee for all to enjoy.

The event has been organised by Winchester City Council’s Economy and Arts team along with Wickham Chamber of Trade, Wickham Parish Council and a team of local businesses.

It takes place between 4pm and 7.30pm, with Santa arriving at 5.30pm to switch on the lights, after which he will make his way to his grotto located in the Kings Head pub where all children are invited to visit him to receive a festive gift.

Portfolio Holder for Economy and Arts, Cllr Rob Humby said:

“This is a fantastic family event that showcases the hard work that the Winchester City Council Economy and Arts team do to ensure that our market towns like Wickham continue to thrive.”

Anyone attending is encouraged to walk to the event or park their car at the Wickham Centre or the Station Car Park.
