Improvement work to Bus Station set to begin
Press Release: 04/07/2017
Improvement work to Winchester’s Bus station is set to commence on Monday 10 July and expected to last approximately 8 weeks. The work will create a safer environment for pedestrians and bus users as well as creating significant improvements to real time bus information.
During the improvement period, all buses using the bus station will be temporary located on The Broadway. Extra bus stops will be installed outside the Guildhall and near King Alfred Statue. Visual Information locating each individual bus route will be displayed in The Broadway and on the bus stops, to assist passengers to find the correct bus. All parking will be suspended in The Broadway during this time and the taxi ranks will be relocated on the northern side of The Broadway, either side of the bus station entrance.
Councillor Caroline Horrill, Leader of Winchester City Council said
Thousands of people use our bus services each week and I am pleased that work is going to start on the hub for these services. The disruption for a couple of months will lead to improved safety and real time bus information – which is going to improve the customer experience.
Councillor Jan Warwick, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Engineering added,
I am delighted to see this work is starting - making the Bus Station a more appealing place will only encourage people to continue using public transport.
