Carolyn appointed to help job seekers with work placements and apprenticeships
Winchester City Council has appointed Carolyn Jay as the new Employment, Education and Training Co-ordinator to help job seekers in the Winchester area with securing high quality work placements and apprenticeships.
This service will build on the successful employment mentoring programme, which is delivered by the national charity Sova, and recruits and trains volunteers to mentor unemployed people across the Winchester District.
Carolyn has spent eight years delivering advice to local people at Basingstoke Citizen’s Advice Bureau. She will be making use of her excellent project management and communication skills as well as an awareness of the complex barriers job seekers face in getting back into work.
Carolyn Jay, Winchester City Council’s new Employment, Education and Training Co-ordinator, said:
I am really looking forward to using the skills and knowledge I have gained from my previous experience in this exciting new role in Winchester. My first challenge is to find employers who would like to give job seekers a work placement, and see the rewards for themselves I hope to be able to make a real difference to the lives of those living in the Winchester District.
Cllr Steve Miller, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Estates and Local Economy, added:
Carolyn’s temporary role will provide employers with an opportunity to support the wider community by giving job seekers work placements as well as ensuring job seekers have the skills and experience they need. For a little investment of time, they could be developing their ideal candidate for the future.
If you are a business located in the Winchester District and would be willing to provide a work placement for a job seeker please contact Carolyn Jay on 01962 848 417 or email cjay@winchester.gov.uk or visit the web page at: www.winchester.gov.uk/work-placement-scheme.
