City Council given ‘clean bill of health’ by external auditors
The City Council’s annual financial report has been given a clean bill health by external auditors.
The annual financial report shows how the Council performed financially during the year to 31 March 2016 and is independently reviewed to ensure that it presents a true and fair view.
The Council continues to operate under challenging conditions, contributing to the national goal of a reduction in the cost of the public sector, whilst maintaining levels of service to local residents.
The report went to Committee on 29 September and concluded that:
the Council has made appropriate arrangements to secure economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the use of resources and has put in place proper arrangements to secure value for money in your use of resources.
Cllr Stephen Godfrey, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance and Corporate Policy, said:
It is extremely gratifying that the independent review concluded that the Council’s finances are being looked after so well.
It is essential that we demonstrate good value for money for the people of Winchester and that we protect our financial position to ensure that the services and resources we provide continue to meet the needs of our residents.
