New oak tree for Compton recreation ground

A new oak tree has been planted at the recreation ground in Attwoods Drove, Compton, as part of a programme to improve local estates and communities.

The tree was donated by Winchester City Council’s grounds contractor, the Landscape Group (TLG), working with Winchester City Council tenants for the benefit of the community in this Conservation Area.

City councillor and Chair of Compton and Shawford Parish Council Cllr Mike Southgate said:

The impact of good quality trees on the local environment cannot be over-estimated. The Parish Council is really grateful to the Landscape Group and the tenants of Winchester City Council for identifying the recreation ground as somewhere that would benefit from such a lovely new tree.

The planting ceremony was held in February and was attended by Parish Council members, local residents, representatives of the City Council Tenant Scrutiny team and the Landscape Group (TLG).
