Winchester City Council and LTA team up for Tennis Festivals and Great British Tennis Weekend

Winchester City Council, in conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), has organised two Winchester Tennis Festivals for 2016.

The first of these festivals will take place in the High Street on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May.

Six temporary tennis courts will be in place, spread evenly on the flat areas of the High Street.

There will be lots of fun for all the family and children of all ages. Free tennis will be available for minis, juniors and adults of every standard and ability.

To avoid queuing on the day, why not register for one of the 15-minute free play sessions? Bookings are for the whole court whether you are one person or a family (up to 4 people). All equipment will be provided.

The second festival on 29 August will welcome a very special visitor to the High Street.

These events are just part of Winchester City Council and the LTA’s forthcoming tennis initiatives.

In addition to the festivals, the Great British Tennis Weekend will arrive at River Park Leisure Centre on Saturday 14 May and Sunday 15 May.

Winchester City Council and Places for People Leisure, in partnership with the LTA and Osman Tennis, have launched the Love Tennis scheme to encourage more people to play tennis at River Park’s public courts.

Details of low-cost family tennis memberships at your local club will be available at all of these events. The public can also find out more about the Love Tennis membership scheme at River Park Leisure Centre, Winchester which entitles you to free tennis all year round.

Amanda Ford, Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Winchester City Council, said

“These events are the perfect opportunity for families to have fun, playing tennis, right in the heart of our beautiful city. Everyone who attends can also find out how to take advantage of the new summer membership offer for families at their nearest tennis club.”
