Station Approach schemes to go on display

Architects’ proposals for the redevelopment of Station Approach in Winchester will be on display at the Guildhall between 9 and 13 May.

One of the two schemes, by Winchester-based Design Engine and London-based Hopkins Architects, will go forward to the City Council’s new Cabinet on 19 May.

The option will be selected by an expert jury and officer panel taking into account public consultation at the start of the project. The jury meets during the week of 25 April to discuss and score the designs.

Cabinet will decide whether to proceed with the competition winner. If Cabinet appoints an architect, consultation on the design will follow to help develop the scheme. Any scheme would need to be submitted for planning permission with accompanying consultation.

The display shows the schemes that have been under consideration to regenerate Station Approach and marks another important step on the road.

The Council’s Cabinet has been clear that the project to deliver new offices, public spaces, parking, homes and shops near the railway station is a high priority.

The display will be open at the Guildhall, Winchester at the following dates and times:

Monday 9 May, Courtyard, 5pm-8pm
Tuesday 10 May, Courtyard, 10am-4pm
Wednesday 11 May, Walton Suite, 1pm-6.30pm
Thursday 12 May, Walton Suite, 10am-4pm
Friday 13 May, Walton Suite, 8am-1pm

An officer will be available to answer questions about the project and design process.

The designs will also be available to view on the Council’s website at
