Winchester has bridgework done
The bridge at Bishop’s Waltham North Pond has been given a wash and brush up by Winchester City Council’s Street Care Team.
The team used a high-power jetting machine to clean the structure at the end of August prior to its full inspection.
The Council team maintains and inspects around 25 bridges in the Winchester district.
And this is not the only unusual job undertaken by Street Care. The team inspects playgrounds, rivers and even sewage treatment works for the Housing department, plus maintaining seats, bus shelters and litterbins, dealing with road closures and special events, and general construction and cleaning for City Council departments.
Cllr Frank Pearson, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Health and Wellbeing, said:
The Street Care team are the unsung heroes of the Winchester district. Much of their work goes unnoticed but we would most certainly notice if they were not there. They look after much of our public infrastructure – from bins to bridges – and help to make sure this is a place in which we all want to live, work and visit.
People may not even be aware that bridges such as the one at North Pond in Bishop’s Waltham need to be cleaned and inspected, so this seemed to be the perfect opportunity to recognise the Street Care team’s work.
