Winchester gets ready for October half-term

Children from across the Winchester District will be given the opportunity to take part in a number of free football sessions this October half-term with a final tournament taking place at the end of the week.

The three days of coaching will take place in a number of venues across the Winchester district on Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October ending with a tournament at the Winchester Sports Stadium on Friday 30 October. This will take place from 12 noon and 4pm and will see teams from each area compete and showcase the skills that they have learnt throughout the week.

The morning and afternoon sessions are aimed at children aged between six and 16 based around fun skill games and matches. The partnership project is run by Winchester City Council’s Sport & Physical Activity Team, Arsenal Soccer Schools and local community groups. Children who wish to attend these half-term football sessions can download forms online from the sports pages of www.winchester.gov.uk and bring them along to their first session.

Cllr Frank Pearson, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Health & Wellbeing, said:

These football sessions are a great way for young people to keep active in their local community and make new friends. It is fantastic that we are able to offer free coaching and I hope to see a high level of participation throughout the week.
