New ‘pocket allotment’ for Denmead Junior School

Denmead Junior School is now the proud tenant of a ‘pocket allotment’ supported through funding from the Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing’s (HARAH) partnership.

The eleven new affordable homes at Old River in Denmead occupy half the site with the remaining being taken up with land given over to nature conservation and some ‘pocket allotments’.

At a recent 10th anniversary celebration event HARAH presented the children with vegetable seeds and a voucher to purchase gardening equipment. Now Denmead Junior School can ‘grow their own’ in a new gated allotment space.

The £1.6m scheme is part of an on-going commitment by Winchester City Council as a member of HARAH, to work in partnership with parish councils to provide affordable homes in the Winchester District.

The Denmead project was funded through a combination of private finance arranged by the developer Hyde Housing Association and funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
