New council homes approved for Winchester
Two housing schemes which will provide 79 new homes for Winchester district residents were approved by the City Council’s Cabinet on 21 October.
Fifty-two of the new homes for the elderly will be built on the Chesil Street surface car park in Winchester.
The state-of-the-art facility with modern spacious flats will provide for all the care and support needs of its residents.
Cllr Caroline Horrill, the City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
The extra care scheme at Chesil Street is an exciting project and an important addition to the district’s provision of accommodation for older people.
Winchester’s population has a higher average age than many areas of Hampshire so the opportunity to attract over £3m of inward investment to meet the housing, care and support needs of its residents is very welcome.
Another 27 new homes will be provided on the site of the former Victoria House scheme in Victoria Road, Winchester. Eighteen will be rented whilst nine will be for shared ownership, all with their own parking space. The apartments have been designed to the highest standards by award-winning local architects PLB.
