Opportunity to influence the future of city centre site
A consultation exercise has begun to guide works to improve the frontage of the Casson Block on St George’s Street in Winchester.
Businesses, residents and visitors are invited to give their comments about how the high-profile building can be brought up-to-date.
Winchester City Council has responded to calls from tenants of the building to make improvements including a deep clean, enhancing the seating area and making it more inviting for pedestrians.
Draft plans are available at www.winchester.gov.uk/business/casson-block/
and can also be viewed at Winchester Business Centre on Parchment Street until Monday 4 January 2016.
Cllr James Byrnes, Portfolio Holder for Local Economy, is pleased this project is moving forward. He said:
The Casson Block is in great need of attention, and we are very pleased to be able to commit the resources to a scheme of enhancements. Businesses have told us it needs updating, and we are responding to those requests. Everyone has a chance to input into the plans now, and let us know what they think should be done to make this part of the city as enticing as possible.
The works will be a small piece of a much larger programme, including the Silver Hill scheme and plans for the Station Approach area of the city.
