Find out about housing plans for Mitford Road, New Alresford
Local people are being invited to a drop-in consultation event to find out about plans for new Council homes at two pieces of land at Mitford Road, New Alresford.
The event will be held at Makins Court sheltered housing scheme, Windsor Road, New Alresford in the communal lounge, on Thursday 26 March from 2.30pm to 7pm.
The proposals involve the redevelopment of a garage court which is located on the corner of Mitford Road and Ashburton Road, and a piece of land at 22a Mitford Road, New Alresford.
The plans for the garage court feature a mix of one- and two-bed homes, potentially for those wishing to downsize to smaller properties. It is also proposed to alter the existing road layout and central grassed area, so that a safer and improved recreational space can be provided that will benefit local residents.
The plans for land at 22a Mitford Road show one two-bedroomed single-storey home. The front of the site was previously occupied by a pair of garages that have been demolished; the new dwelling will improve the appearance of the piece of land.
These proposals are part of a major programme of new council house-building in the Winchester District to help local people access homes that they can afford.
At the consultation event people will be able to see the designs and give their thoughts to staff from Winchester City Council and the architect. For those people in need of affordable housing who are not already on the housing register there will also be the opportunity to register their interest.
Due to changes in benefits rules, there has been an increase in the number of people wanting to downsize. To meet this need, the City Council is looking to build some smaller properties. This will also help to make available family housing in the area for the households currently on the waiting list.
There are currently around 120 households on the housing register who would be suitable for a one-bedroom or two-bedroom property with a local connection to New Alresford.
