Apprentices raise funds for Winchester’s Basics Bank

Apprentices from Winchester City Council raised more than £500 for charity and promoted apprenticeships at a Winchester car boot sale.

The four apprentices – Chandler Divers, Nina Harper, Matt Scott and James Roberts - collected money from generous sellers at the event, held in the Cattle Market car park. They raised £540 which they will use to buy and donate food and clothing to Winchester’s Basics Bank.

Winchester City Council’s apprentices are entrants in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2015, which is the official search to find the national apprentice team of the year. The apprentices hope to be recognised for their efforts in supporting the community and raise awareness of apprenticeships.

In addition to the car boot event (Sunday 8 March), the group have recently completed a team-building day at Winchester’s Fire Station which tested their communication and logistical abilities - vital skills for the competition.

Godfrey Owen, Chief Executive Officer of Brathay Trust, said:

It’s great to see the Brathay Apprentice Challenge teams getting involved promoting apprenticeships this year and continuing to build upon their communication and team-building skills. The work that they’re doing as part of the Challenge shows people what apprentices can achieve for both themselves and their communities.

Matt Scott, Civil Engineering Apprentice, said:

It’s great to be a part of an active team and to feel like we are doing something beneficial to the community. We hope to go far in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge, with the support of the public.
