Apprentices donate to Winchester Basics Bank in time for Easter

Easter came early for those in need using the Winchester Basics Bank, thanks to the efforts of Winchester City Council’s apprentices.

The team, who are entrants in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2015, include members who work in teams ranging from Human Resources to Building Control. They used the money they raised from a Winchester car boot sale – more than £500 - to fund their donations.

Their donation included food and clothing as well as a range of chocolate eggs, just in time for the Easter celebrations.

Winchester Basics Bank is a Christian project supported by local churches, caring organisations and Winchester City Council. They provide those in need with emergency food parcels and good quality second-hand clothes.

Sakhu Ngwenya, mentor to Winchester City Council’s apprentices, said:

I am pleased with our apprentices and how hard they have worked to raise money and support one of Winchester’s charities. It is a pleasure to see them working together to give something back to the community and to support those in need.

James Roberts, an apprentice for Winchester City Council’s Major Projects team, added:

We are absolutely delighted to have been able to represent such a well-established charity which will ultimately aid those in need, which is a true satisfactory achievement for us as a Council. It has been a privilege to work as a team with my fellow apprentices to successfully achieve an outcome that benefits the local community.
