Dogs abandoned in Winchester district – call for witnesses

Winchester City Council is asking for the public’s help to track down those responsible for abandoning nine dogs in the district overnight (Wednesday 21 January).

Three of the strays were found at Upham, three at Morestead Road, two at Owslebury and one at Alresford.

The dogs were in poor condition, unable to see or stand properly and with matted fur. The breed is difficult to determine because of the dogs’ condition, although it is thought they may be Portuguese water-dogs or poodle crossbreeds.

All of the dogs have been taken to kennels and are receiving veterinary care. The City Council will be working with the RSPCA and the police.

Anyone with information about the dogs should contact Winchester City Council on 01962 840222 extension 2172 and an officer will call back or email eh@winchester.gov.uk .
