Town Forum grants
Small grants worth £5,000 have been awarded to organisations in the town area of Winchester by the Winchester Town Forum.
The one-off grants benefit residents in the six areas of Winchester without parishes by helping the organisations to run specific activities or buy equipment.
For example the Winchester Sports Lido Association in Hyde received a grant of £436 for a laptop and printer to increase communication to members and Friends of the Family were awarded £147 for a sun canopy for outside activities for the mums and toddlers support group.
Cllr Jamie Scott, the Chair of the Town Forum Grants Panel, said:
It’s great to see the wide variety of activities we can support within the Town through these small grants.
As the grants have proved so valuable we have recommended running the small grant process again this year. This is as long as the budgets are verified at full Council in a few weeks time.
Melissa Fletcher, Funding & Development Officer for Winchester City Council, said:
The small grants are an essential source of funding for groups who just need a little bit of money for an activity or piece of equipment. We have a very healthy demand for this type of funding. We try to support as many organisations and activities as possible.
The Town Forum Grants Panel have also recently considered and ratified their core funding allocations for the coming financial year of 2015/16. For further information on the funding allocations: http://www.winchester.gov.uk/meetings/details/1329
