Winchester Festivals take centre stage with revamped website
Press Release: 16/04/2015
To mark the start of the 2015 festival season in Winchester, the Festivals in Winchester website has been redesigned and re-launched to showcase the city’s growing number of colourful festivals which bring the city to life throughout the year.
The site – to be found at www.festivalsinwinchester.co.uk – has been developed by Winchester City Council’s tourism team on behalf of the directors from all the major Winchester festivals.
The sheer growth in the number of festivals in the city prompted a revamp of the existing festivals in Winchester site. Now it is much easier for visitors to the site to search for festivals based on the themes they are interested in – comedy, music, film, literature, arts, food and drink and Christmas.
The newly refreshed site includes a calendar of the festivals happening throughout the year across the city and district and gives visitors a snapshot of what to expect via the Festivals in Winchester film which is featured on the homepage.
Ellen Simpson, Head of Tourism at Winchester City Council, said:
Winchester’s festival scene has grown over the last six years since the Festivals in Winchester group was first launched in 2009 by Winchester City Council in partnership with Winchester BID. The group originally consisted of just the five main city-based summer season of arts festivals - MayFest, Festival of Art and Mind, Winchester Writers’ Conference, Hat Fair and the Winchester Festival. It has now widened its net to include the newer festivals also making their mark on the city and adding to the variety of events available throughout the year including Winchester Fashion Week and Winchester Comedy Festival.
The new site also links directly to the main tourism website www.visitwinchester.co.uk to provide visitors from further afield with valuable information to help plan their trip and encourage them to stay longer, serving to benefit the wider economy of the city and district.
