Prize money boost for Winchester Criterium 2015

The Winchester Criterium on Sunday 7 June will benefit from a significantly increased prize fund in 2015, thanks to the support of headline sponsors Montezuma’s Chocolates and Hargroves Cycles.

The juniors will compete for podium places, winners medals, and a range of goodies, while the seniors will be racing for cash prizes with a total of £1,000 on offer in both the main men’s and women’s races.

We are delighted to be contributing to the cash fund and also providing non-cash prizes for the junior races to go with their winners medals,” said Simon Pattinson, Co Founder at Montezuma’s.

We provided some luxury chocolate last year which went down a storm with the riders so we’re happy to add to the offer to make 2015 the best year yet. Our Winchester shop is right on the route so it’s an ideal match for us.

The final two senior races will have cash prizes on offer down to tenth place, while in the other senior races, the top five will benefit.

It’s great that we can help with the cash prize fund for 2015,” said Pete Hargroves, owner at Hargroves Cycles.

With a good winners’ pot for those on the podium and extra incentive to battle right the way down to tenth place in the final two races, we hope it makes for exciting racing in the city this year.

Both sponsors will be there on the day to hand out prizes during the podium presentations and will be joined by the Mayor of Winchester.

We’ve really welcomed this commitment from the two headline sponsors this year, and it’s great that the organisers are working hard with businesses locally,

said Catherine Turness of Winchester BID.

Hampshire County Council, Winchester City Council, and Winchester BID have all invested to ensure the event can go ahead successfully, but we needed some commercial partners to come on board to really add value to the event with those finishing touches - and they have done just that.

The racing starts with youth races from 11am, with the final women’s races to start at 3.30pm and 4.30pm . For full information and for social media links, visit our website at www.winchestercriterium.org
